In 2007, Veolia Energia Magyarország Zrt. bought 99.94 percent of Pannonpower's shares. With the transaction, Veolia also acquired control over the companies belonging to the Pannonpower group (such as Pannon Hőerőmű Zrt., PANNONGREEN Kft., Pannon-Hő Kft., and Pannon-Biomassza Kft.).
Pannon Hőerőmű Zrt. operates and maintains the blocks of the Pécs power plant. As a result of the fuel change that took place between 2004-2013, it currently operates two biomass-fired equipment: the 49.9 MW wood chip-fired boiler, and the 35 MW electric boiler heated with baled herbaceous agricultural by-products. In addition, Pannon Hőerőmű Zrt. also takes care of keeping the gas boilers, which have been functioning as a reserve since 2013, in operational condition. Through its operation, Pannon Hőerőmű Zrt. supplies approximately 31,554 district-heated apartments and 483 other consumers (e.g. hospitals, schools, shopping centers, etc.) with district heat through the local heat provider, PÉTÁV Kft., in which it has a 33% minority stake.
PANNONGREEN Kft. operates the largest biomass-fired power plant block in Central Europe. The fluidized bed boiler with an installed electrical output of 49.9 MWe is heated with wood chips, wood industry and agricultural by-products, and to a small extent with SRF. In this way, it contributes to sustainable energy management and improving the living conditions of the city of Pécs. PANNONGREEN Kft. annually sells ~330 GWh of electricity and ~700 TJ of thermal energy.
Pannon-Hő Kft. was founded by the group of companies in 2005 with the aim of managing the construction and subsequent operation of a 35 MW block utilizing baled herbaceous agricultural by-products – i.e. a renewable energy source – as an independent project company from the beginning. Nowadays, the company's task is the combined production of electricity and heat with the second biomass boiler that was put into operation in 2013. Pannon-Hő Kft. produces 35-40% of the total amount of electricity of the Pécs power plant, as well as approx. 60% of it. Annually, it sells ~190 GWh of electricity and ~800 TJ of heat. This development project was judged the best in the market development category by the European professional organization of combined energy production, COGEN Europe, in 2014.
