In 2015, Veolia Energia Magyarország Zrt. took over the power plant block in Debrecen that serves as the basis for local district heat production.
The Debrecen power plant produces district heat for 31,529 residential and 2,200 other consumers of the country's second largest city. The thermal energy output of the equipment is 430 MWth, and the electrical energy output is 102 MWe.
With the takeover, the company's goal was to provide local residents with cheap and environmentally friendly thermal energy, operating and developing a system that offers a long-term sustainable energy model for the settlement.
