Veolia Energia Magyarország Zrt. bought the Szakoly biomass power plant in 2016. The power plant, handed over in 2009, is Hungary's first biomass-fired power generation facility established with green field investment. The power plant, which provides jobs for 55 people, produces electricity purely by burning biomass - wood chips and sawmill by-products. About 140,000 tons of wood chips are burned in the power plant every year, and the 20 MWe of electricity produced annually - which can supply 50,000 homes - is fed into the national electricity network.
The power plant currently represents the highest technological level available.
Relying on the economic and technical background of the Veolia company group, the facility supports Hungary's energy goals in the long term.
